The beauty of our land and the surroundings

Tyddyn Retreat is a tranquil haven, blessed with beautiful views in all directions. Two pretty meadows provide space for activities, conversation or quiet reflection - with natural group seating spaces and private hideaway resting places. Tall oak, ash and other indigenous trees are joined by planted features and flower gardens, and a magical ‘dingle’ with deep cuts streams and gentle waterfalls.

Imagine getting away from it all for a self-catering holiday, workshop or gathering, here in this wild Mid Wales landscape. The air is so clean and clear that lichens grow easily. Peace and quiet surrounds you, the sheep and lambs greet you on the way….and …. if you’re looking for excitement there’s plenty on the doorstep – you can rally drive, mountain bike, sail, fish, paintball and shoot clay pigeons.

This is our magical ‘dingle’ – deep cut streams meet here under the tall oak trees. Our pond is full of all manner of creatures and plants, and has recently been expanded so that our coracle (traditional small round boat) can be paddled there. In the dream of Tyddyn Retreat this is to become our ‘amphitheatre’ for events of poetry, music and theatre, with staging alongside the pond and seats all around on the banks. For now, you can just enjoy the ever-changing scene of flowers, frogs and other creatures.

There is a historic Drover’s Road and small ancient orchard, plus ‘the island’ moss-covered hill between the beautiful streams – a perfect place to lie back in the deep moss and relax, while listening to the sound of the water and the amazing mix of birdsong.

Walking directly from the doors and gates of Tyddyn Retreat, you can explore the varied landscape of hills and woods that surround us. From the high hill above the venue or your self-catering cottage there are 360 degree wonderful views – including to the beautiful mountain of Cadair Idris.

It’s beautiful here in winter too… and when you return from a day out enjoying the scenery or walking the dog, you can toast your toes in front of a roaring fire in your log burner – perhaps by candle light?

Enjoy our dark skies and starry nights – perhaps sitting with a glass of wine in one of our many comfortable outdoor seating areas – with an outdoor heater if you need it.
