Stylish self-catering holiday cottages in Mid Wales

In each cottage, converted from 250 year old barns, there is a large open studio or living area, with ceilings reaching high up to the roof, and light filling the space from the many window. Each has a bedroom and crog loft (mezzanine), plus comfortable studio sleeping, providing for 6 people per cottage, with space for addtional single futons or foldaways. Details and extras in your rooms have been carefully chosen. If you have any particular needs, please just ask and we will do our best to have what you need ready for your arrival.

The Upper Barn

In this cottage you can look forward to tall beamed ceilings, traditional lime plaster walls, exposed stone, oak floors windows and doors, and a space flooded with light. With the special eco lighting panels you can create a mood for every moment in the evenings, while enjoying the comfy seating around a large roaring log burner in the fireplace.

The extraordinarily comfortable large futon sofabed comes highly recommended – relaxing in the day and a great sleep at night. Romy, Tyddyn Retreat’s owner regularly sleeps on the same model in the Summerhouse!

This stylish double bedroom includes exposed stone, oak floor and fittings and a beamed ceiling. Hanging and shelf space with baskets is ready for you to unpack into. The lighting is dimmable, to create the feeling you are looking for. We trust you will enjoy the choice of pictures too.

This twin bedded ‘crog loft’ is a favourite with many of our guests (especially younger members of the family staying with parents!) – accessed by oak steps from the studio and looking out over the spaciousness of the whole cottage.

This luxury bathroom includes a thermostatic shower over the bath, large hand basin, mirror with built in ‘starlights’, shaving mirror, heated towel rail, eco handwash, underfloor heating and a rather special loo…

The Lower Barn

The same key features greet you in this converted barn as in the Upper Barn: traditional lime plaster walls, beamed ceilings, oak floors, locally hand-made windows and doors, and light bathing the space from every direction. The French doors open to the garden in the front, while to the other side you have your own outside dining set and outdoor seating.

A welcoming space that you may not want to leave in the morning ! For a beautifully comfortable stay, the double bed with luxury mattress is complimented by an oak window seat, hanging and shelf space, and dimmable lighting.

Lie in bed and look out over the Cambrian Mountains and hills. This deliciously special ‘crog loft’ offers a double bed and bedside lighting as with all of our beds. Another favourite with our visitors. There is even space for an additional foldaway here, if needed.

This cottage has been especially designed to be accessible by wheelchair users. The stylish wet room includes a shower seat and grab rails for those who would find them helpful. The towel rail is heated, as is the floor.

Welcome pack and local food

We invite and encourage all our guests to enjoy the amazing variety of local foods that are available here. We are happy to offer a Welcome Pack to introduce you to some of them, with most supplies coming from within 10 miles of Tyddyn Retreat.

Being warm & cozy

Underfloor heating, run by eco ground source heat, will keep you toasty in the cooler months, while the wood burner can add to the cozy feel for those nights in around the fire. Perhaps you might like to snuggle up in one of our delicious throws of recycled Welsh wool – they make a great gift too!
